What Is Pinterest and Is It For The Wellness Industry?

Pinterest For Business Owners

It's called Pinterest
Hailed as the fastest growing social media site, it is said to have 7 million unique visitors in December 2011 and is bringing more referral traffic than YouTube, Reddit, Google+ and LinkedIn combined [you read that right]. That is a lot of traffic and that means Pinterest cannot be ignored anymore.

A study posted by Mashable states that Pinterest is second only to Facebook when it comes to user engagement. It is now the number three most popular social network in the US. Users are staying active on the site for an average of 89 minutes. It gets addictive and things that are pinned goes viral pretty fast.

So What Is Pinterest?
Pinterest  is the "new" viral image sharing social media site that aims to “connect everyone in the world through the 'things' they find interesting” and they seem to be accomplishing that.

People pin what they like onto online virtual boards (called pinboards). And those who like the same kind of things that you like can repin or share the items thus the social and communal aspect of Pinterest. "Like-minded" people come together and share visually appealing photos and videos.

So Is Pinterest For Your Business?
Check out the
free report that tells you What Pinterest Is, Why You Should Be On It and How To Set Up Your Optimized Pinterest Presence.

Using LinkedIn Polls For Engagement With Your Clients

Using LinkedIn Polls to understand and engage with your Clients

  LinkedIn Polls

LinkedIn Poll is an under utilized feature even for those who have LinkedIn account.

LinkedIn Polls enable you to raise points of interest and have your prospects and clients share their views with you. This gives insights into their minds.

Needless to say, for your poll to generate engagement, it will need to be on a subject that is close to their hearts and front of their minds.

Or something that is of concern to them or something that they have a vested interest in.

So if you want to start using LinkedIn Polls here's a short video that will show you how easy it is to set this up.

And if you have any questions, leave me a question at the comment section below and I will get back to you. Or if you find the video helpful, let me know too, I love to see which part was helpful and which parts may require further clarification for another Tutorial Video.

3 Important Updates From Facebook and Google That Will Change Your Business

3 Important Updates From Facebook and Google This Week That Will Change The Way You Do Business

Local Google+ Page

LINESPACE

AFacebook release 5 different admin roles with different admin rights.

What does that mean for you?
That means you now can decide how you want to delegate functions and responsibilities for managing your Facebook Business Page while maintaining control of permissions and rights for each of the administrators instead of giving them all  the same level of rights. This is especially helpful if you outsource your marketing of Facebook to external consultants or agencies.

B - Facebook now allows you to schedule status updates ahead of time - for up to 6 months and in increments of 10 minutes. You need to schedule your updates at least 10 minutes after the time you create the update. Why is this useful? There are many good reasons you may want to schedule your status updates (check out this post).

If you have been using third party apps to do this you would have noticed that less of your status updates reach your audience. With the new feature which is from within Facebook, I am going to guess that Facebook will give preference to posts scheduled with this way than those done using third party apps.

At the moment, the "reach" count is not shown if you use Buffer or Hootsuite but it is shown when I use Facebook's internal scheduling function.

C - Google just dropped us a another piece of news after the recent Google Penguin update.

Your Google Local Business Listing will soon be a thing of the past. Yes, Google is retiring its very own Google Local Pages and replacing it with Local Google+ Page.

Ok That is a mouthful. But what does that mean to you?
If you are a local business or know someone who has a local business then you will be affected in these ways:

1 -Ranking on local search will take into consideration social factors gathered on your new Google+ Local Page (on top of the existing factors).

2 - Entries on these pages will be indexed by Google, that means Google+ Local Page will help rank your business in search results.

How To Schedule Facebook Posts Without Third Party App

How To Schedule Facebook Posts from Within Facebook without Third Party App

FB Scheduled Posts

Do you sometimes want to schedule posts ahead of time so your status can be updated over night (to cater to readers in a different time zone). You many also want to do this if you are vacation so you can still communicate with your audience with a little planning.

Are you using apps like Buffer or Hootsuite to do this now and reaching less fans because these are third party apps and not internal to Facebook?

Now you have a better solution. Facebook just released a function that helps you with time managing the scheduled status updates. A handy time management tool from within Facebook.

And the cool thing is that you can also scheduled photos, videos as well as text updates. I have a short video that shows you "How" you can do that. But before I show you the video here are my findings from testing this feature.

- Schedules text are shows on Facebook app as well as the Facebook mobile site (that is m.facebook.com)

Facebook Adds Admin Roles With New Admin Functions

Facebook Add Admin Roles With The New Admin Functions And Permissions.

Facebook Admin Roles

Facebook just released new Admin features allowing administrators to have different roles. This is useful if you are having different people help out with different functions for managing the business page.

The 5 new roles are

- Manager
- Content Creator
- Moderator
- Advertiser and
- Insight Analyst

What that means is that the different functions and jobs can now be performed independently by the different people with different roles and access rights.

This is particularly useful if the business outsource management of the Facebook Page to an agency

Businesses and brands can now delegate analytical and advertising work to certain people, say agencies and moderating and posting tasks to say in -house employees. Original post Here.

3 Commonly Committed Mistakes of eMail Marketing

3 Sins of eMail Marketing System

eMail Marketing System
Want to reach a lot of people with the click o a SEND button?
Thinking of buying "a targeted" email list with 50,000 names on it and try your luck with some "spray and pray" emailing?
There are people who are able to sell or promote products and services using email blasts.

Whether that is something you would want to do is a decision you will need to make - I would not recommend it. (Photo credit: Zige Zhao).

I have written about email marketing system elsewhere. A simple search on the category "eMail Marketing" (at the bottom of the page) will bring up related posts.

While there are no hard and fast rules about what methods you should use, here are my recommendations, based on email best practices.

3 Things Not To Do with eMail marketing

1 - Do Not buy email lists no matter how targeted they are for the following reasons:
- These people have not give you permission to send them emails.- They do not know you and will not read your mails even if you reach them.- They are not interested in what you have to tell / sell them and will delete or mark your mail as spam.

2 - Do Not automatically sign them up to your email list or newsletter:
- Even if you allow them to opt-out this is not permission-based marketing.
- Nobody likes to be forced into anything.
- Even if your stuff is great, let others sign up on their own free will.
- Because if you automatically signed them up, they may not know or remember who you are and will not be interested in your mail.

You are at best wasting your precious time and resources

Is Social Media For The Medical And Health Care Industry?

Social Media For Medical, Pharma and Health Care

Is Social Media For Medicals and Health Care Industry In Kuala Lumpur?

The answer depends on 3 things:
1 - What you mean by Social Media and
2 - The phase at which your medical practice is at
3 - The phase at which your local council or ministry is at

So yes, medical professionals certainly can incorporate elements of Social Media into their current promotional effort. And there is a responsible and effective way to do that.

There are ways of implementing Social Media Strategies that will get you your desired results. And they are many other ways of using social media that can get you into "undesirable" situations.

So what generally comes to mind when the word Social Media is mentioned?

Invariably people think of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. And they may also think of posting messages, photos and videos.

That is using Social Media. But there are many other social media platforms. And there are many other ways of using different Social Media platforms.

Not using the correct platform in the correct way will not bring you the desirable results. And in the medical industry, this can mean rather serious consequences. Both the Ministry of Health as well as the Medical Councils have strict guidelines that need to be followed.

Depending on the maturity of the industry and the phase at which the business (medical practice) is at, a certain way of using particular social media platforms will serve you better.

So Will You Use Social Media In Your Medical Practice?
- So will you sit, wait out and observe?
- Or will you dive and explore?
- How would you do it if you do not have the time to keep up with developments in industry guidelines and best practices?
- Do you know what social media marketing strategies work best for you at this phase of your medical / health care practice?
- What technology or infrastructure would you need in your case?

Why Do I Need An eMail Marketing System?

Why Do I Need To Invest In An eMail Marketing System?

eMail Marketing SystemI was asked this question so many times this week I thought this is a topic that needs another blog post.

So let us look at some misconceptions about eMailing in general.

I) I can use free eMail accounts to send out mails to all my contacts.

Yes, but your emails may not reach all your contacts (we refer to it as deliverability rate), especially if you send out the same mail to many people at the same time.

eMail providers will flag you as attempting to spam and may not deliver mails coming from your account.

That is why mails sometimes end up in spam or junk folders, or they are just lost in cyber space - in no man's land.

In some cases, your account may be frozen to prevent your from further spamming others.  Pressing the send button using free email providers does not guarantee that your emails will be received.

II)  I only have 100 contacts and I do not need an Mail Marketing System. You use your eMail Marketing System to grow new contacts in your email database and build relationship with existing prospects and clients.

III) I have hundreds of name cards collected from various networking events I can just email them.  Having a stack of name cards of prospects or clients does not give you permission to send them regular updates or promotional emails.

As an ethical business, I highly recommend permission-based marketing.   By that I mean you will only send regular updates or newsletters to your contacts with their explicit permission while guarding their email privacy.

That includes not sharing their addresses with others or displaying a bunch of email addresses in bulk emails.   You will also need to provide an option for your contacts to opt out of this email arrangement anytime. That is putting power back into their hands.

How To Find Hidden Posts On Facebook Timeline Page

How To Unhide Facebook Timeline Page Hidden Posts

Facebook Timeline Hidden Post

Have you received messages from people asking you if you have seen their posts on your Facebook Timeline Wall?

A few people contacted me and asked if I have seen their posts and i have not. I later found out that these posts have been sent to the spam folder, a little like how emails sometimes end up in spam folders.

If you are the Adminstrator of the page, you can see what else have been sent to the spam folder.

On the new Facebook Timeline format it takes a little scouting around to find where this spam folder is.

Here's another short 2-minute "How To Tutorial on Facebook" to show you where to look for missing posts as well as highlight options you have for managing these posts.

How To Use Tags In LinkedIn To Manage Your Contacts

Using Tags in LinkedIn To Managed Professional Contacts

In this video I will show you how to use tags to manage LinkedIn contacts. Tagging contacts in as you make new connections will help you make more meaningful conversation with each of your contacts. And it is really not something hard to do. LinkedIn allows you to have as many connections as you like, unlike Facebook which limits you to 5000 friends. But you will lose lose track of who's who if you do not group them meaningfully, or tag them so they are organized into different lists or groups. This short video shows you how you can do that easily. And if you find this 3-minute video helpful then you can sign up for the more comprehensive online video training on How To Use LinkedIn to build your business.

Should Professionals Market Or Promote Themselves?

Should Professionals Promote Their Expertise or Services?

Social Media for Professionals?

"If  you are a Professional and if you think you are good then you should not need to market or promote yourself. At least you don't want to be seen marketing yourself". That's one school of thought.

"I am a professional, I don't sell and I don't solicit for business". I hear this very often.

  Do you agree?

As a Consultant in the corporate world I had to not only know my stuff but the higher up the ladder I go, the more I had to sell my services - to corporations.

From a content expert, we are moved along the line to being sales person with Key Performance Indices tied to how much time we can charge out our own services as well as that of our teams.

Few years back, having been certified as a Trainer and a Coach and armed with a Masters degree in Education, I applied for a Trainer's role with an Academy. I was sort of interviewed for that job but was instead offered a sales job - selling coaching programs.

Initially a little confused and put off, I was thinking "do you know how much content I have and you are asking me to sell?".  Yes, they were and they saw something I did not see then.

In the months that followed, I was consistently one of the top performing sales consultant breaking all sorts of record, surprising even myself. It was then that I saw sales and marketing in a new light.
