3 Commonly Committed Mistakes of eMail Marketing

3 Sins of eMail Marketing System

eMail Marketing System
Want to reach a lot of people with the click o a SEND button?
Thinking of buying "a targeted" email list with 50,000 names on it and try your luck with some "spray and pray" emailing?
There are people who are able to sell or promote products and services using email blasts.

Whether that is something you would want to do is a decision you will need to make - I would not recommend it. (Photo credit: Zige Zhao).

I have written about email marketing system elsewhere. A simple search on the category "eMail Marketing" (at the bottom of the page) will bring up related posts.

While there are no hard and fast rules about what methods you should use, here are my recommendations, based on email best practices.

3 Things Not To Do with eMail marketing

1 - Do Not buy email lists no matter how targeted they are for the following reasons:
- These people have not give you permission to send them emails.- They do not know you and will not read your mails even if you reach them.- They are not interested in what you have to tell / sell them and will delete or mark your mail as spam.

2 - Do Not automatically sign them up to your email list or newsletter:
- Even if you allow them to opt-out this is not permission-based marketing.
- Nobody likes to be forced into anything.
- Even if your stuff is great, let others sign up on their own free will.
- Because if you automatically signed them up, they may not know or remember who you are and will not be interested in your mail.

You are at best wasting your precious time and resources

Is Social Media For The Medical And Health Care Industry?

Social Media For Medical, Pharma and Health Care

Is Social Media For Medicals and Health Care Industry In Kuala Lumpur?

The answer depends on 3 things:
1 - What you mean by Social Media and
2 - The phase at which your medical practice is at
3 - The phase at which your local council or ministry is at

So yes, medical professionals certainly can incorporate elements of Social Media into their current promotional effort. And there is a responsible and effective way to do that.

There are ways of implementing Social Media Strategies that will get you your desired results. And they are many other ways of using social media that can get you into "undesirable" situations.

So what generally comes to mind when the word Social Media is mentioned?

Invariably people think of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. And they may also think of posting messages, photos and videos.

That is using Social Media. But there are many other social media platforms. And there are many other ways of using different Social Media platforms.

Not using the correct platform in the correct way will not bring you the desirable results. And in the medical industry, this can mean rather serious consequences. Both the Ministry of Health as well as the Medical Councils have strict guidelines that need to be followed.

Depending on the maturity of the industry and the phase at which the business (medical practice) is at, a certain way of using particular social media platforms will serve you better.

So Will You Use Social Media In Your Medical Practice?
- So will you sit, wait out and observe?
- Or will you dive and explore?
- How would you do it if you do not have the time to keep up with developments in industry guidelines and best practices?
- Do you know what social media marketing strategies work best for you at this phase of your medical / health care practice?
- What technology or infrastructure would you need in your case?

Why Do I Need An eMail Marketing System?

Why Do I Need To Invest In An eMail Marketing System?

eMail Marketing SystemI was asked this question so many times this week I thought this is a topic that needs another blog post.

So let us look at some misconceptions about eMailing in general.

I) I can use free eMail accounts to send out mails to all my contacts.

Yes, but your emails may not reach all your contacts (we refer to it as deliverability rate), especially if you send out the same mail to many people at the same time.

eMail providers will flag you as attempting to spam and may not deliver mails coming from your account.

That is why mails sometimes end up in spam or junk folders, or they are just lost in cyber space - in no man's land.

In some cases, your account may be frozen to prevent your from further spamming others.  Pressing the send button using free email providers does not guarantee that your emails will be received.

II)  I only have 100 contacts and I do not need an Mail Marketing System. You use your eMail Marketing System to grow new contacts in your email database and build relationship with existing prospects and clients.

III) I have hundreds of name cards collected from various networking events I can just email them.  Having a stack of name cards of prospects or clients does not give you permission to send them regular updates or promotional emails.

As an ethical business, I highly recommend permission-based marketing.   By that I mean you will only send regular updates or newsletters to your contacts with their explicit permission while guarding their email privacy.

That includes not sharing their addresses with others or displaying a bunch of email addresses in bulk emails.   You will also need to provide an option for your contacts to opt out of this email arrangement anytime. That is putting power back into their hands.

How To Find Hidden Posts On Facebook Timeline Page

How To Unhide Facebook Timeline Page Hidden Posts

Facebook Timeline Hidden Post

Have you received messages from people asking you if you have seen their posts on your Facebook Timeline Wall?

A few people contacted me and asked if I have seen their posts and i have not. I later found out that these posts have been sent to the spam folder, a little like how emails sometimes end up in spam folders.

If you are the Adminstrator of the page, you can see what else have been sent to the spam folder.

On the new Facebook Timeline format it takes a little scouting around to find where this spam folder is.

Here's another short 2-minute "How To Tutorial on Facebook" to show you where to look for missing posts as well as highlight options you have for managing these posts.

Using Tags in LinkedIn To Managed Professional Contacts

In this video I will show you how to use tags to manage LinkedIn contacts. Tagging contacts in as you make new connections will help you make more meaningful conversation with each of your contacts. And it is really not something hard to do. LinkedIn allows you to have as many connections as you like, unlike Facebook which limits you to 5000 friends. But you will lose lose track of who's who if you do not group them meaningfully, or tag them so they are organized into different lists or groups. This short video shows you how you can do that easily. And if you find this 3-minute video helpful then you can sign up for the more comprehensive online video training on How To Use LinkedIn to build your business.
